Lewis Hamilton says that nose design of McLaren is a match for its rivals – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton says that he is pretty optimistic on the decision of McLaren regarding not to use a stepped nose and feels that the nose design will still prove out to be quite a match for its rivals in the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton’s positive attitude is quite open to discussion as the critiques are raising questions about the place of McLaren in the upcoming season because every team is using a step in its nose of the car except the MP4-27 which will make the design of the
car smoother and hence leading the team to wrong direction.
However, Hamilton is not concerned with this at all after being four days behind the steering wheel.
“It's not looking like a negative,” Hamilton said. “I think we have the downforce on the car, or at least similar downforce to others. The question is always finding the balance and where you have the downforce, whether you have it on the front or have it
on the rear or the middle of the car. Entry of corners, mid-corner, exits of corners - it's always a balance to manoeuvre the design of the car so that you get the best balance throughout the corner.”
Hamilton feels that the focus is on the improving the downforce of the car especially at the rear because of the new combination of Pirelli tyres and the ban of exhaust-blown diffuser as a result of change in the rules by FIA for 2012.
“We haven't yet figured out the right set-up of the car,” said Hamilton.
Furthermore, Hamilton has stated that after test driving the car he coordinates his views to the team engineers so that they may make the improvements in the car and shift some downforce to the rear or where there is a need of it.
Despite of too much criticism faced by the team, Hamilton did not show any concerns but expressed that he is very much convinced and quite confident about the design of the new car by the team and that the car is very well capable of giving a tough match
to the teams at the top.
