Lewis Hamilton says there may be more drama to come
Lewis Hamilton is clearly the most unfortunate driver on the circuit right now; the Brit was leading the championship until the midpoint of the season but some unfortunate results in last few races have left him at 4th in the table.
However the 2008 world champion is not deterred and believes that anything can still happen, and he is not giving up the chase for his 2nd world championship.
Hamilton suffered unfortunate accidents at the Italian and Singapore Grand Prix; it was followed by a gearbox failure at Japan qualifying that earned him a 5 place penalty on the starting grid. All of that means that Hamilton is now 28 points adrift of the
table topper Mark Webber from Red Bull.
Now there are just 3 races left in the season, and realistically there are not many bright chances for the Brit to win the title. Hamilton though remains optimistic and believes that fortunes can turn quickly in Formula one.
The McLaren driver reflected back to the 2007 season when he missed out on the championship by just one point. It was his first season in the sport and Hamilton looked on course to win his maiden title. Kimi Raikkonen was 17 points behind him on 2nd
place, but as it turned out the Finn managed to edge him out in the final race and won the world championship.
"It's getting more difficult, I'm fully aware of that”.
"But in a situation like this I always look back at the 2007 season and what happened in those final two races”.
"Kimi (Raikkonen) was 17 points behind, but he still managed to win the world championship”, said Hamilton
The youngest world champion said that he has seen on multiple occasions that the championship is not done, until the chequered flag in the final race is shown. He added that that is the true and simple reason why he is not willing to give up on the chase.
The next race in the calendar takes place in Korea, for any chances of having some lingering hopes of the title Hamilton would have to win there. The Brit said that barring any car or gearbox failures it should be an even playing field in Korea. He said
that it is a brand new circuit and there would be a lot of surprises for every driver. Hamilton went on to say that normally drivers favour some tracks and if they have some wins under their belt at the same circuit it does give the edge.
Lewis Hamilton’s 4 seasons in the sport have not been short of drama. He won his first title in 2008 that was his 2nd season in the game; he had missed out in his first season by just one point. But signs were there that the young Brit was meant
for big things. The very next season he did manage to win, but even then it was not short of some Hollywood shenanigans. Lewis Hamilton needed to finish in top 6 in the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix to win the title. While Felipe Massa needed to win and
hope that Hamilton finished outside the top, Massa had done his bit and ended a spectacular flawless race with a win, Hamilton at that stage was on 7th place. Felipe Massa was on track to win the title and celebrations had already started in the
pit lane, but just on the final turn in the final lap. Hamilton managed to get inside top 6 and won the title in one of the most exciting climaxes ever witnessed in formula one.
All of those dramas are one reason Hamilton is still keeping faith, and who knows there may yet be another twist in the story of 2010 season.
