Lewis Hamilton says winning the Canadian GP was a great feeling – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton said winning the Canadian GP is phenomenal sensation and the win feels as good as his first Formula 1 victory back in 2007.
He added that it was probably one of the best races he has had for a very long time. The emotions were high and the win made him feel over the moon.
Talking about the race Hamilton said that he knew the race was a difficult one that is why initially he was happy that he was able to keep up to Sebastian Vettel who was holding the lead initially in the race.
The strategy the team had planned was to make to pit stops and the team knew that it was the fastest way to get to the finish line. Tyre management was very important and he was able to manage them well.
The flow of information coming from McLaren engineer Andy Latham was brilliant and it helped him know exactly where he was losing or gaining time. The Brit said that really helped him out in the race. He had the control and the understanding of the race
all the time.
“Every win is different. Every victory is new, special and fresh. And to see the team all wearing their Vodafone 'rocket red' victory T-shirts, knowing the guys back at the factory are doing the same, makes everything feel even more special. Finally, the
support from the fans has been amazing - this victory is dedicated to them. I'm so grateful to be here today,” he said.
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh was in all in praise of Hamilton and said the win meant a lot as it was the 300th Grand Prix for the team. It culminated with McLaren holding five wins at the circuit out of the past seven Grands Prix held.
“So, yes, today was a very good day. Lewis drove brilliantly. He shadowed Seb for the first dozen-or-so laps, then closed right up on him as the first pitstop window approached. I want to pay tribute to Akebono, whose brake callipers coped brilliantly on
the circuit that by some margin poses the biggest braking challenge of the Formula 1 year,” he added.
