Lewis Hamilton seems confused on his move to Mercedes in 2013 – Formula 1
Lewis Hamilton has decided to say goodbye to McLaren at the end of this year and will join Mercedes in the 2013 Formula 1 season as the replacement of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher who has taken retirement from the sport.
Hamilton signed his new deal with the Brackley based team with great confidence to take on a fresh challenge in his career. Moreover, he expressed great delight on securing a race seat with one of the most competent teams in F1.
In addition, he said that he will perform at his best in the coming season and will try to give his input in making the essential developments in the car so as to take his team to new heights.
It will be important to note that the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh has said that the 27-year-old may face difficulties in the next season as the Silver Arrows have not been able to develop a reliable car until now.
Nonetheless, Whitmarsh wished the British driver best of luck for the future and expressed that they will always cherish the time which they have spent together in the team.
On the other hand, the team boss of Mercedes, Ross Brawn said that they are targeting to develop a competitive car for Hamilton for the next year so that he may be able to win the championship title. Besides, he said that they are looking forward to perform
well right from the start of the coming season in order to achieve good position in both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships.
Meanwhile, the 2008 world champion said that he is really very happy over his decision to move to Mercedes and will make the best of his efforts to attain promising results for his team.
“No, I'm really, really happy about it. You can't live with regrets in your life,” Hamilton said. “You have to make a decision and stick with it.”
However, he has recently said that he is not ruling out the probability of coming back to his home team in the future which has signalled that he is confused with his decision.
“You can never say never and I've had a great time,” he said. “I think it will always be my home.”
Nevertheless, he said that he has decided to join Mercedes in the next season because he wanted to get some new experience in his career. He also said that he is eagerly waiting to work with different people.
“I'll always look at it as where I've come from. Going back there would be nice one day. But I want to go and experience some things for a bit,” he added. “It's almost like leaving home and going travelling for a bit. But I'm doing it with a different company.”
During the start of this season, he stood amongst one of the most consistent point scorers and was well in the title chase along with Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Conversely, he faced some technical and reliability
issues in quite a few races which hindered his performance and he failed to attain good results for his team.
He secured fourth place finish in this year’s drivers’ championship. Additionally, he remained ahead of his teammate, Jenson Button and behind his main rival, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
Let’s see whether he proves his decision regarding changing his team right or not.
