Lewis Hamilton sets pace in FP3 of 2012 Italian GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has topped the timesheets in the third practice session of the 2012 Italian Grand Prix, just ahead of Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Hamilton set the best time of 1 minute and 24.578 seconds and had an intense close fight with Alonso who was just 0.001s behind the British driver.
Moreover, the Spaniard was followed by Paul di Resta of Force India who seemed strong behind the wheel of his car and collected some crucial data for his team regarding the car’s updates. However, he will face a five-place grid penalty for unscheduled gearbox
change.
Di Resta stayed ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari who came 4th in the timesheets covered 16 laps and was followed by Jenson Button of McLaren.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes set the 6th fastest laptime and completed 22 laps. Furthermore, the veteran German driver remained ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber who was further followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
The Finnish driver stood ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who covered 20 laps and was followed by Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing came 11th in the charts and was followed by his teammate, Sebastian Vettel. In addition, the two-time world champion had to stop on track before the end of the session as his alternator failed to work.
Bruno Senna of Williams came 13th in the timesheets and remained ahead of Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who ran without KERS. However, the Brackley based team has said that they will resolve the issue before the qualifying.
The seven-time world champion stayed ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who was further followed by Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso.
Lotus driver, Jerome d’Ambrosio who has replaced Romain Grosjean this weekend stood at 17th position in the charts and was followed by Ricciardo’s teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne.
Caterham drivers, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov came 19th and 20th in the timesheets and were followed by Marussia pair of drivers, Charles Pic and Timo Glock.
Over and above, HRT drivers, Narain Karthikeyan and Pedro de la Rosa came last in the charts.
