Lewis Hamilton sets the fastest pace in FP2 of 2012 British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has set the best pace in the second Friday free practice session of 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit.
Hamilton topped the timesheets in the rainy conditions and seemed very comfortable behind the wheel of updated MP4-27. Furthermore, he remained successful in gathering some crucial data to assess the upgrades in the car.
The British driver covered 8 laps and was followed by Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who remained on the top for quite a while during the start of FP2.
The Japanese driver was followed by Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who showed an impressive improvement in the pace as compared to FP1. Moreover, the seven-time world champion completed 12 laps and remained ahead of his teammate, Nico Rosberg.
Rosberg stayed ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber who covered 13 laps and was followed by Jenson Button of McLaren.
The British driver completed 9 laps and looked quite comfortable with the aerodynamic upgrades in the car as compared to the first session in which he came 17th in the timesheets.
Heikki Kovalainen of Caterham set the 7th best time and covered 10 laps. Furthermore, he was followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who came 8th in the timesheets and completed 8 laps.
The Finnish driver remained ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who set the 9th fastest time and covered 12 laps.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari drove on the intermediate Pirelli compound tyres and came 10th in the timesheets. In addition, the Spaniard remained busy in collecting the data about the updates in F2012 in order to make the necessary evaluation and
covered 14 laps.
Alonso was followed by Paul di Resta of Force India who stayed ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
The Venezuelan driver remained ahead of Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who covered 10 laps and he seemed not quite comfortable in the updated RB8.
The defending champion was followed by Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso who stayed ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Besides, the Brazilian driver remained ahead of Timo Glock of Marussia who was further followed by Bruno Senna of Williams.
Above and beyond, it has been forecasted that the rain may persist during the race weekend in Silverstone and it will be quite interesting to see what all the contenders bring in the third practice session.
