Lewis Hamilton struggles with the issues after Friday practice of 2012 European GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is struggling with a lot of issues after the free Friday practice sessions of 2012 European Grand Prix at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain.
Hamilton faced problems with the setup of MP4-27 and could only set the 14th best time of 1 minute and 40.147 seconds in FP2. Moreover, he stayed ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari and behind Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
However, the 2008 world champion is feeling confident that they will be successful in solving the issues soon.
“I'm about 95% away from where I want to be with my car at the moment,” he said, “but I'll get that 90% overnight. It was just a bit of a struggle really, I tried a couple of different things with my tyres and it didn't work. I feel quite confident that
I can make some changes to put me back in a better position tomorrow. I don't know why there's such a big gap to the lead four, on Jenson's side I don't know what problems he was having, but on my side we were having a lot of problems.”
In addition, he said that it is very important to for him to perform well in the qualifying of the approaching race so as to secure a competitive grid position in order to attain good results.
Furthermore, he has been one of the most consistent drivers in the season so far. Presently, he is leading the drivers’ championship with 88 points and is 2 points ahead of the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
The British driver secured striking third podium finishes in the first three grands prix and claimed pole positions in first two of them. Afterwards, he faced difficulties with the poor pit stop strategy of the team in two of the next three races.
Nevertheless, he delivered an inspiring performance in the Canadian GP and took his first victory of the season after setting off from second place in the grid.
Over and above, he is undeniably one of the most favourite contenders in this year’s championship and it will be quite interesting to see how the season progresses for him.
