Lewis Hamilton surprised with McLaren’s performance during German GP qualifiers – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton recently stated that he was surprised about his team’s performance during the qualifying session and that he underestimated his car’s capabilities.
It is believed that the MP4-26 is performing better than it was during the British Grand Prix mainly because of the fact that the teams are now allowed to use off-throttle blown diffusers once again.
“This weekend, [the lifting of the ban] doesn't look like it has had a massive effect on the Ferrari and Red Bulls, but it has enabled us to get back in the fight,” said the McLaren driver.
Other than that, McLaren also introduced some upgrades to their car and despite the fact that the team failed to score good results for the practice sessions, their new upgrades are a success.
“We've had some new upgrades this weekend. Throughout the weekend, throughout the week we've had a constant push to bring updates and to improve some of our engine modes which have obviously helped massively. I definitely underestimated how the car would
be when we went to low fuel but it felt fantastic and the lap was just beautifully flowing,” said Hamilton.
Hamilton is going to start from 2nd place on the grid alongside Mark Webber in row 1 as he scored a pretty good lap times for his team.
The 2008 Formula 1 world champion was just 5 hundredths of a second short of Webber’s pole position scoring lap time which proves that McLaren are now closer than ever to Red Bull Racing in terms of pace.
Ferrari on the other hand are not looking so bad either as Fernando Alonso is going to start from 4th place on the grid alongside Sebastian Vettel in row 2 while Felipe Massa is going to start the race from 5th place on the grid.
The German Grand Prix is going to be quite exhilarating and the fans would definitely want to see their German hero Sebastian Vettel move his way up ahead of the rest of the pack at the start of the race.
