Lewis Hamilton targets championship title in the remainder of the season – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren believes that he will be able to fight Fernando Alonso of Ferrari for the championship.
After winning the Hungary Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix the McLaren driver will enter the Marina Bay Street Circuit, confident.
He told that winning three consecutive races leaves them enthusiastic about attaining further victories and now they want to target championship in remainder of the season.
Hamilton said, “We’re now inching closer to the finishing line - and this is where it starts to get exciting! After winning the last three races of the European season, the whole team starts the long haul around the world for the final series of flyaways
that will determine the outcome of this year’s world championship.”
Hamilton won convincingly at the Italian GP and Hungary GP. His victory adds to his confidence at the Singaporean circuit and he believes that he will be able to fight Alonso for the championship. The British driver has attains 142 points in the championship
and is at the second position, until now.
He believes that the race at Marina Bay will be a hard nut to crack because the braking zones appear at top speeds and the circuit is not so wide. He added that one must be in a leading position to get most out of the car. Besides, he said that heat and humidity
adds to the challenging circuit.
“It requires more finesse, though: most of the braking zones are approached at very high speed, and the walls are never far away. Factor in the heat and humidity and it’s a very challenging weekend,” he said.
The McLaren driver won the Singaporean GP in 2009 but he has been unable to exhibit impressive results after that. He expects to have better luck this time.
The competition among the top position is very close as Hamilton holds second position and is followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus with a difference of one point only, whereas the Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel is at the 4th position with 140 points. Alonso
is 37 points ahead of the British driver with his 179.
Let’s see whether Hamilton be able to repeat his history of 2009 at Singapore GP or not.
