Lewis Hamilton targets fight back in remainder of 2012 season – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is targeting to fight back in the remainder of the 2012 Formula 1 season after facing retirement in the Singapore GP.
Hamilton showed an incredible pace in the qualifying of the night race held at Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore and claimed the pole position. Although, he maintained his lead well in the race but unfortunately he was retired because of a gearbox issue.
Even though, he could not score even a single point in the preceding race due to which he has fallen 52 points behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is currently at the top of drivers’ rankings. Nevertheless, he has asserted that he is not feeling disappointed
over his retirement in the last race and is positively looking forward to win all the remaining grands prix.
Moreover, he said that he is trying hard to come up stronger at Suzuka next weekend which is a very fast track and there is not room for mistakes there.
“When I first raced here in 2009, I couldn't believe a place like this could still exist in Formula 1 - it still feels like a proper old-school circuit,” Hamilton said. “It doesn't have the polish or finesse of an ultra-modern track - but is all the better
for it. It's fantastically quick, too, and very difficult to master. It's an unforgiving place, and it also has that special atmosphere that you only get in Japan, for some reason.”
In addition, he said that he really likes racing in Japan as the fans there are extremely friendly and they create a wonderful environment.
“I think that's due to the fans - they're what make any visit to a racetrack in Japan feel so special,” he added.
Presently, the 2008 world champion is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 142 points. Besides, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and is behind his main opponent, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
It will be thrilling to see how the British driver shows up in the remaining six races of the season.
