Lewis Hamilton targets victory in 2012 United States GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is targeting to win the 2012 United States Grand Prix which is going to be held at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas this weekend.
Hamilton scored his second race win in his debut season back in 2007 at Indianapolis and is now eagerly looking forward to this weekend’s race in USA.
“It's crazy to think that the last United States Grand Prix was five years ago!” Hamilton said. “It's a race I still remember like yesterday, though. For me, those were incredible, thrilling times.”
In addition, he said that he is feeling very excited for the forthcoming race and praised the love and support of the American fans.
“I have to admit - I'm absolutely made-up that we're going back to the States,” he said. “I think the Circuit Of The Americas looks like it could also be the place that modern Formula 1 finally calls home.”
Besides, he said that the track of the upcoming race will be very challenging for all the drivers and it will be interesting to see how everyone performs there. He also said that he is aiming to win the approaching race so as to make his mark stronger in
the championship fight.
“This is a new circuit, a new challenge and a new opportunity - I'm definitely looking to be the first grand prix winner at the Circuit of The Americas,” he added.
The British driver has been considered as one of the most competitive title contenders in this year’s championship. Furthermore, he has scored points with admirable consistency in the season until now.
Even though, he is no more in the title chase as he has lost some crucial points because of his unfortunate retirements in few races due to reliability issues in his car.
Nevertheless, he is still looking forward to perform well in the final two grands prix of the ongoing season in order to help his team in securing good position in the constructors’ championship.
It will be exciting to see how the 2008 world champion performs in the last two races.
