Lewis Hamilton thinks Mercedes stand a better chance in the Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that they have made some significant changes in their car and thinks they stand a better chance in the 2013 Spanish Grand
Prix as compared to their rivals.
Hamilton has performed remarkably well in the season until now. He is currently standing at third place in the drivers’ championship with 50 points. Besides, he
is ahead of his major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and behind Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. Moreover, he has secured two podium finishes in the season so far.
Although, he faced a little bit difficulty in the Bahrain GP because of tyre degradation issue, but he still managed to secure an impressive fifth place finish
after taking a start from 9th grid position.
The British driver has said that they have learnt a lot from the preceding race and are positively looking forward to perform well in the season ahead.
“I definitely think this is going to be a little bit different,” Hamilton said. “Bahrain was very much rear-limited [degradation], but on my side of the garage
it was quite positive, certainly in the second half of the race so I'm excited about the things we learnt in the race and hopefully we can bring them here.
In addition, he said that the track of the approaching race provides more balance between the front and rear degradation. So, they are hoping to come up stronger
in this weekend’s race to attain better results.
“Here it's more of a balance between front and rear degradation, so front left and the rear tyres will be the interesting ones,” he said.
“Everyone is in the same boat, but with the temperatures also I think we stand a better chance,” he added.
Furthermore, he stated that they have planned to introduce and evaluate some essential updates at Circuit de Catalunya on this Friday and are aiming to make the
most out of them on the race day.
Presently, the Silver Arrows are standing at 4th place in the constructors’ championship with 64 points. Let’s see how they perform in the first race
of the European season.
