Lewis Hamilton thinks Sebastian Vettel may face difficulties in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton thinks that Sebastian Vettel may face problems in the season ahead as Red Bull Racing have struggled with their pace in some qualifying sessions of the first four rounds.
Vettel performed exceptionally well in 2012 and successfully claimed his third consecutive drivers’ title with Red Bull. He has already scored two race victories and a podium finish in this season and after such an impressive start, he is currently leading
the drivers’ championship with 77 points. Moreover, he has a lead of ten points over his main rival, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
The German driver showed an impressive performance in the Bahrain Grand Prix and scored his second win after taking a start from second grid position. On the other hand, Hamilton performed tremendously well in the qualifying at Bahrain International Circuit
in Sakhir, but faced a five-place penalty due to which he started the race from 9th grid slot. Nevertheless, he still managed to secure an impressive fifth place finish. Additionally, he stood ahead of Sergio Perez of McLaren and behind Paul di
Resta of Force India.
The three-time world champion has made his position really strong in this year’s championship. But, the 2008 world champion doesn’t think that the 25-year-old will dominate in this season as he has in the last three seasons.
“Seb always seems to win in Bahrain, so that was no real surprise for us,” he was quoted by the Sun. “I don't think it will be the same for Seb in all the races plus Red Bull have seemed to struggle in some qualifying sessions.”
Besides, he asserted that they faced a lot of issues in their car during the last race due to which they could not attain competitive results. Nonetheless, he said that he was pleased to secure fifth place finish as he efficiently minimised the expected
damage for his team.
“The Bahrain Grand Prix could turn out to be one of the worst grands prix for us because we had a lot of problems with the car,” he added. “We were on the back foot all weekend, so to come away with a fifth place when I started in ninth, was really pleasing.”
