Lewis Hamilton to chat it up with Felipe Massa before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton has expressed his desire to have a private talk with Felipe Massa at this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix over the ongoing run-ins of the two drivers.
This season has seen six collisions between the two, needless to say both drivers would have those collisions in mind following up to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. However, interestingly enough both drivers have denied any personal issues with each other. Yet their apparent unspoken bond to find ways to step on each other during the races has been aplenty this season.
Both have been criticised for their actions on track and off it. Although Hamilton has been shunned over the incidents more than the Brazilian, but the last collision they had at the Indian Grand Prix, has been termed as Massa’s fault. Even the stewards after carefully going over the footage penalised Massa.
Although Red Bull driver Mark Webber lashed out at the stewards for penalising Massa on an incident which is purely a racing accident and not something the driver may have acted upon purposely to disrupt his and Hamilton’s race.
Hamilton was asked by the Formula 1 official website, if he had the chance to speak to Massa, to which he replied, “I don't think that the drivers' briefing is the right place to do this. I hope we get the chance to discuss this in a more private environment sometime soon. Felipe is a driver who is very hard to overtake, as he never leaves the door open or much space. So it is always the guy behind that needs to make any effort to overtake him. And we have been very unfortunate to come together so often.”
He further added, “I personally do not have a problem with him. If he does have any issue with me that would be his problem.”
Hamilton has been amidst a lot of criticism over the course of the season, which admittedly has been one of the worst of his career by the Brit. Even at the Indian Grand Prix, he was slapped with a three-grid penalty after he had failed to slow down despite a yellow flag during the FP1.
It would be interesting to see how Massa and Hamilton fare during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, scheduled to go take place on Sunday, November 13, 2011.
