Lewis Hamilton tops the timesheets in FP2 of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has topped the timesheets in the second Friday free practice session of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
Hamilton set the best time of 1 minute and 15.259 seconds in FP2 and completed 43 laps. Moreover, he ran his car on supersoft tyres during the afternoon.
The British driver stayed ahead of Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who set the second fastest time of 1 minute and 15.313 seconds. The Spaniard covered 36 laps and stayed ahead of his teammate, Felipe Massa who completed 39 laps and came 3rd in the timesheets
with his quickest time of 1 minute and 15.410 seconds.
It will be important to mention that the Scarlet team introduced a new exhaust configuration in F2012 in order to improve its pace in the forthcoming race. Meanwhile, it proved out to be successful as both the drivers praised the performance of the car and
expressed that they have been able to gather some essential information which will help in making further advancements.
The Brazilian driver was followed by Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who set the fourth best time of 1 minute and 15.531 seconds. Additionally, he covered 44 laps and remained ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India who with his fastest time of 1 minute
and 15.544 seconds came fifth on the charts.
Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber-Ferrari set the sixth best time of 1 minute and 15.651 seconds while he completed 37 laps. The Japanese driver was followed by Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who set the seventh quickest time of 1 minute and 15.697 seconds. Furthermore,
the seven-time world champion covered 32 laps.
Nico Hulkenberg of Force India completed 39 laps and came 8th in the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 15.799 seconds.
Hulkenberg stayed ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren who set the 9th fastest time of 1 minute and 15.812 seconds. Although, the 2009 world champion faced oil leakage issue in FP1, however, he came up well in FP2 and completed 14 laps. Besides, he praised
the mechanics of his team for all their efforts.
The 2009 world champion remained ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes who covered 40 laps and came 10th in the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 15.878 seconds.
The German driver was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber who set the 11thquickest time of 1 minute and 15.898 seconds. Besides, he completed 38 laps and stayed ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull who set the 12th fastest time of 1 minute and 15.907 seconds.
In addition, Webber remained ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams who was followed by Lotus pair of drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen.
