Lewis Hamilton tops the timesheets in FP2 of 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has topped the timesheets in the second free Friday practice session of the 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix held at Hungaroring in Budapest.
Hamilton set the best time of 1 minute and 21.995 seconds during FP2 and remained ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. Moreover, the British driver tried to save his tyres as he came back in the pits 30 minutes before the end of the session because of wet weather
conditions after running on soft tyres.
“Out of the car, track is dry in some places but wet in others. No need to waste tyres,” Hamilton tweeted from the garage.
Bruno Senna of Williams came third in the timesheets and was followed by Felipe Massa of Ferrari who could not complete his long run due to rain.
Furthermore, the Brazilian driver was followed by his teammate and current leader in drivers’ championship, Fernando Alonso who seemed busy in collecting the essential information about the setup of F2012.
The Spaniard was followed by Jenson Button of McLaren who came second during the morning session behind his teammate, Hamilton. However, Button struggled a bit during the afternoon and could only set the 6th best time.
The Briton remained ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India who was further followed by the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who could not gather the desired amount of data about his car’s updates because of rainy conditions.
“We didn't get a crack on the soft tyres so it's difficult to compare competitiveness,” said the veteran German driver.
Romain Grosjean of Lotus came 9th in the timesheets and had an accident at turn six in which he lost his front wing and went to pits for repairing.
The French driver was followed by Michael Schumacher who also crashed at turn twelve as he could not manage to maintain his grip on the track in his intermediate tyre compound.
The seven-time world champion was followed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg who stayed ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
The Venezuelan driver remained ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who was further followed by Mark Webber of Red Bull.
Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber came 15th in the timesheets and was followed by Toro Rosso pair of drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo.
Besides, Kobayashi’s teammate, Sergio Perez came 18th in the timesheets and was followed by Caterham drivers, Vitaly Petrov and Heikki Kovalainen.
The Finnish driver was followed by Timo Glock of Marussia who remained ahead of Pedro de la Rosa of HRT.
Over and above, almost all the contenders faced difficulties due to the rainy weather conditions in FP2, nevertheless, it will be quite exciting to see how they come up in the third session.
