Lewis Hamilton wants Mercedes to be successful as Red Bull – Formula 1 News
Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes has said that he wants his current team to win championships like Red Bull did over the past several years.
The 28-year-old driver had been a part of McLaren since he was a young kid, but broke his ties with the team last year and moved to Mercedes, where he wants to emulate what seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher achieved
with Ferrari.
Despite facing some serious tyre wear issues, Hamilton has managed to score some solid points with his current team. However, he does not want to win occasional events, as his main aim is to fight for the titles.
The veteran driver said, “I am talking about this journey with Mercedes, the next year and the year after, and the year after that. They're the years we've got to hammer it and win Championships like Red Bull have done the past
few years. I moved to this team because I believe they can do that.”
When Hamilton came into Formula 1, he was considered to be a championship contender straightaway. He managed to clinch the title in 2008, but has been unable to repeat that performance since then.
He was annoyed with that fact and stated, “I want to win another World Championship. I am tired of these years of winning a couple of races and not winning the Championship when I feel that coming up to Formula One I won every
Championship pretty much that I competed in.”
Currently, the Briton is fourth in the Drivers’ Championship with 50 points to his name. He was unable to score even a single point in Spain, which was quite disappointing for him. However, he has a chance of catching up with the
rest, if he gets a good result from the Monaco GP.
Mercedes have shown dominance over a single lap run, which will allow Hamilton and his team-mate Nico Rosberg to qualify higher in the streets of Monte Carlo. Moreover, they will not suffer because of the tyre wear issues on this
circuit, as overtaking is almost impossible. Therefore, any driver can hold his position, if he has qualified at the front row of the grid.
