Lewis Hamilton wants to race alongside Jenson Button for another three years – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that his team must re-sign his teammate Jenson Button for another three years as he can fight for them in future.
Hamilton added that Button is performing very well in the 2011 Formula 1 season and that he would love to race alongside him for some more time.
Recently, there were rumours about Hamilton that he was looking to switch to Red Bull Racing in the near future. However, the rumours did not materialise into anything substantial and both Hamilton and Red Bull denied such a move.
Hamilton added he wants to stay at his current team in the future and that he might sign a new three-year contract with McLaren at the end of this year.
The 2008 world champion added, “I've a pretty solid contract at the moment, but Martin (Whitmarsh) has spoken to us about discussing a new contract fairly soon, in the coming months. Definitely, hopefully, by the end of the year I'll have something in place
and I can continue on, which is important to be able to do.”
Apart from him, Hamilton said that McLaren must re-sign Button keeping in mind his performance.
The 26-year-old driver went on to say, “If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Jenson has been fantastic. He has been very quick and competitive. His demeanour helps create a comfortable atmosphere in the team. We have more harmony in our team than in any other.”
Both the drivers had a good start to the ongoing season, as they performed very well in the initial race weekends. Hamilton had a great time at the Chinese Grand Prix, where he achieved his first race victory in the season. Since then, he has been continuously
struggling to get a podium position.
In the recently held European Grand Prix, both McLaren drivers were unable to finish their race on the podium. Despite their disappointing Valencia race, McLaren are hoping for successful upcoming race weekends.
