Lewis Hamilton will fight hard to win 2012 Formula 1 World Championship
McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton has been considered as one of the most competent contenders in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship and has surely got the potential to win his second title this year.
Presently, he is standing at fourth place in the drivers’ rankings with 117 points. Moreover, he is just 1 point ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and is 5 points behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Even though, the current leader in the drivers’ championship, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari is far ahead of the British driver with 164 points. Nonetheless, the Brit has still been deemed as a strong candidate in this year’s championship.
He took an impressive start of the season and claimed two pole positions in the first two races. Moreover, he secured third podium finishes in the first three grands prix and emerged as the most consistent point scorers.
Later on, he struggled with the poor pit stop strategy in the Bahrain GP and could only secure 8th place finish even after taking a start from the second grid slot.
Afterwards, in the Spanish GP, he showed an amazing pace in the qualifying and topped the timesheets but all in vain as he couldn’t meet the minimum fuel level in the car before moving back to the pits. Nonetheless, he showed an inspiring performance in
the race and came 8th after setting off from the end of the grid.
Later on, he again faced the issue of inefficient pit stop strategy in the Monaco GP and secured fifth position after beginning from the third place in the grid. Even so, he made a tremendous fight back in the Canadian GP and took his first victory of the
season after beginning from the second grid position.
Conversely, he could not score any points in the European GP even after starting from second grid slot as he had a collision with Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
Additionally, he struggled with the issues of lack of downforce and tyre variation due to the changing weather conditions in the British GP and could only secure 8th place finish. Besides, he was retired in the German GP because of a problem in
the rear wing of his car.
Nevertheless, he came back incredibly well in the Hungarian GP and scored his second win after dominating during the whole weekend in Budapest.
Moreover, he expressed that he is targeting to narrow the gap to the front in the upcoming races so as to win the championship battle this year.
Though, he said that it is very hard to catch Alonso in the drivers’ championship, however, he said that he is confidently looking forward to score more points than the Spaniard in the approaching races after the summer break.
“To claw that gap back from Fernando, we will need to finish ahead of him pretty much everywhere which is going to be insanely difficult,” Hamilton said. “I definitely needed it especially after the last three disastrous races. It was a really, really great
day. But I came here this weekend stronger than ever. Even though we had a really disastrous race in the last one I came here with the intention of winning. I always come with the intention of winning but in my mind it was so set. I was really pumped.”
