The Schalke defender has admitted that his side performed poorly against Bayern and deserved to lose in the game at Allianz Arena.
Schalke’s title hopes took a dent as they lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena on Sunday, February 26. The visitors were hoping to secure all three points to remain in the race for the Bundesliga crown but Franck Ribery made
sure that the Bavarian giants emerge victorious as he scored a brace.
Holtby showered praise on Ribery and insisted that the player made it very difficult for the Schalke defence. He admitted that the winger had a great game and his play from the left constantly troubled the Die Knappen back four.
The player stated that his side had their fair share of chances in the match but the finishing was poor and the midfielders failed to stamp their authority in the game. He added that the home side thoroughly deserved their victory
as they played some wonderful football and dominated possession.
“Above all, in Franck Ribery, Bayern had an outstanding player on the left side. With a little luck with our chances we might have been able to steal something, perhaps. It must be admitted, however, that Bayern deserved to win,”
he was quoted as saying in an interview to Goal.com.
The German international expressed his disappointment on losing the game and admitted that it will be very difficult for Schalke to win the title from here on. The player stated that his side could have done better as Bayern had
been in some poor form off-late.
However, Holtby is confident that the team will make a strong comeback from the defeat and will be able to secure a win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 next week.
“Of course we are disappointed. We all could have done more. In the last few weeks Bayern have not been quite on track, we could have figured out something,” he concluded.
Die Knappen will next take on SC Freiburg at the badenova Stadium on Saturday, March 3, in a bid to secure their 15th win of the ongoing season. Schalke are currently placed fourth in the Bundesliga standings with 44
points.
