Lewis Moody slams Danny Cipriani for his rude behaviour - Rugby News
English skipper Lewis Moody, who led his side in Rugby World Cup 2011, has slammed young Danny Cipriani for his rude behaviour towards the seniors during his initial days with RFU.
Moody made the comments about the former Wasps’ fly-half in his book, entitled Mad Dog, on October 30. He revealed the impolite attitude of Cipriani and the ex-captain stated that the young player failed to make a good impression during his early days, which
resulted in his departure from the team. Danny Cipriani played his last test match with England back in 2008.
Cipriani has the habit of falling in controversies since the beginning of his professional career which has cost him the wrath of various team managements. Cipriani started off his rugby career with the Wasps way back in 2003, just at the age of 17 and grabbed
the attention of national selectors for his unique and progressive style. He was included in England’s U19 side to participate in RWC where he further enhanced his abilities and ultimately was selected in national side after the tournament.
However, the fly-half could not cope the unexpected fame and became rude with his seniors instead of concentrating on his game. The player was further exposed in his maiden Super Rugby season with the Melbourne Rebels when he was fined and dropped from the
tem for his irresponsible off-field activities.
Describing the early days of Cipriani at RFU, Moody has stated that,“I am an open-minded guy but it is fair to say that my first impression of Danny Cipriani was not a good one. He had already made his mark by being dropped by Brian Ashton before England's
2008 Calcutta Cup match with Scotland after being spotted at a nightclub before the game, then producing an impressive display at stand-off against Ireland.”
The former skipper further said that, “Maybe there's a bit of old school about me but, when a young man comes into a new squad, I think he needs to keep his head down and get on with it.”
Danny Cipriani was charged of theft and poor discipline during the last event he participated in, Super Rugby 15, for Melbourne Rebels.
