I have been on Lexapro for my anxiety for the past 3 weeks and feel much better!!! My anxiety has decreased, however I am experiencing the typical sexual side effects of decreased sexual drive and am having the hardest achieving o****m, actually I haven't had any orgasms since I started Lexapro! I HATE this and want to enjoy s*x with my fiancee again!!!

I will talk to my doctor, but just want to know if anyone has experienced this & have any remedies! I heard Yaz birth control may help. Has anyone tried this?

PLease help! Serious responses only, no rude comments!

  1. you kind of have to weigh the pros and cons.  If the anxiety is horrible and unmanageable then stay on the lexapro but if you can handle it then get off of it.  You have to judge would you rather have no anxiety and no s*x or s*x and anxiety?

  2. I am on Lamictal and have had no sexual side effects. Quit taking it and see your doctor. Depression can be made worse by not enjoying s*x (I know)

  3. before saying anything else i think it is important that you know never, EVER to stop any type of medication without seeing your doctor first.  Lexapro can cause withdrawal side effects if not tapered off properly.

alot of SSRI's like lexapro cause sexual side effects, talk to your doctor, he can prescribe you a different class of antidepressant or anti anxiety which may not cause the same effect.

I suggest something like BuSpar, it is an antianxiety medication that is not sedating.  However, it takes a few weeks to work (3-6) longer than Lexapro- (1-4)

  4. I was once on Lexapro. I don't have a direct answer for you but watch out for the  weight gaining side effect, also.  I ballooned up by 70 lbs in only three weeks.   Mostly water weight.  It has also been linked to causing diabetes.  It did work on the mental problem I had.

Definitely talk this over with your doctor.  One medication that has really worked for me is Lamictal.  It was a "wonder drug" for me.  I am not certain if it would be effective in your case.  But I suffer from bipolar with anxiety.  Lamictal was the difference between night and day.

  5. I am on Lexapro now but I am divorced.  I would not take it because of those sideffects.  I think right now you should try another drug because right now you have a fiancee.
