Lexi Thompson, Carly Booth and Lydia Ko: Who will perform next season?
Lexi Thompson, a 17-year-old teenager who was born in the locality of Coral Springs, Florida, became the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour by clinching the Navistar LPGA Classic in 2011.
She also won the season ending Omega Dubai Ladies Masters tournament in the same year by demonstrating a high level of play and defeating the top players on the European Tour.
Since coming into the golfing circuit, Thompson has had her share of the spotlight because of the way she performs on the fairways. Her headstrong approach and a tough competitive attitude give her an edge over many young players on the tour.
Back in 2007 when she was a mere 12-year-old, Thompson became the youngest ever golfer to participate in the U.S. Women’s Open. She turned into a professional golfer when she was 15 and won her first title on the tour at the age of 16.
Her record breaking streak has got her the attention of the media. Thompson is not a new figure on the tour and has improved her game drastically with the passage of time.
With all the attention she has been getting, the sponsors have lined themselves up to advertise their products with the help of the teenage figure.
But with all the hype that has been created, there are plenty of expectations from the American teenager as well.
If Thompson rises up to the occasion and performs well then she will definitely be a star and be considered as one of the best there is.
However, in case she does not come up to the level of play that is expected of her, then she will be shunned away.
While commenting on Thompson’s performance on the tour, Brittany Lincicome said, "She's jumped right in and handled the pressure of her win really well”.
She continued, "She had to mature very quickly and she did. But her real gift is how she's been with fans -- always tweeting pictures to fans and going outside the ropes to talk with them. We can never have enough outgoing players to help grow our tour”.
Carly Booth is a Scottish golfer who has made a name for herself by becoming the youngest ladies club champion in Britain at the age of 11. Moving on to her teenage years, she went on to win two events on the Ladies European Tour.
It is rare to see a golfer emerging from the place that started it all. Catriona Matthew, who is one of the legends of Scottish golf, said that Booth is one of the best talents Scotland has produced in a long time.
Lydia Ko is also one of the rising stars on the golfing arena. The New Zealand golfer won the 2012 Canadian Women’s Open and by doing that she became the youngest player to win on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour.
The three young golfers have definitely achieved something this year that has got them all the attention.
Many veterans of women golf say that the exposure of young players on the tour is necessary for the tour itself and is highly beneficial for women’s golf.
Thomson is likely to perform better than the other two golfers because she has played alongside the best on the European Tour.
She has what it takes to compete at the highest level. The American has been performing consistently and will be the star to look out for in the coming season.
