Lexi Thompson determined to atone for Lotte Championship defeat at Mobile Bay LPGA Classic
Lexi Thompson, who disappointed her fans by displaying a woeful performance at the LPGA Lotte Championship 2012, has vowed to do her best at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic this week.
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic will go underway from April 26-29, at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course, with a strong field, containing some of the most battle-hardened LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) giants.
Thompson’s dream to secure her first triumph of the 2012 season shattered when she kicked off the Lotte Championship at Ko Olina Golf Club in an unimpressive style, failing to make the cut.
Analysts said that Thompson’s fans did not expect her to walk off the course without putting up some fight, although the field included players far stronger than the young star.
However, The American prodigy is glad to see her name in the roster for the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic 2012.
Speaking to the media about what she plans for the looming battle, Thompson said that the event is very special for her for apparent reasons.
She performed surprisingly well in the 2011 edition of the Mobile Bay Classic, as she managed to grab a lead in the third round, but failed to maintain her momentum on the final day.
Thompson came close to beating the winner Maria Hjorth, but scoring a devastating 78 messed up her position on the leaderboard and she slipped to the 19th spot.
Still, analysts believe that the way she performed in the face of tough resistance at Crossings Course, anything can happen.
At the LPGA Lotte Championship, she looked like she was finding it hard to make putts on most of the holes. She kicked off the opening round with a solid plan, as she reeled off her first birdie on the tricky par-3 4th hole.
Observers said that the tough weather might have played havoc with Thompson’s strategy for the day, as she blew even the easiest of chances.
Despite letting down fans at Ko Olina Golf Club, Thompson appears to be in high spirits, as she is about to tee off at her favourite tournament — Mobile Bay Classic.
She cited the example of what she did at the 2011 edition at Crossings Course, saying she gained so much from that experience.
"It prepared me for when I got in that position again. It helped me at Navistar and in Dubai. I learned a lot from it and now I'm I know a little more about how to finish it," the 17-year-old American said.
