Lexi Thompson eyes victory at Kia Classic 2012
Lexi Thompson is one of the few players on the LPGA (Ladies professional Golf Association) who have gained so much in such a short time, and her stunning performance also reflects her real strength on the course.
The Kia Classic, which is going to be played from March 22-25 at the famous La Costa Resort and Spa, will be thrilled-filled because of the presence of the young star.
Although the 17-year-old American is regarded as one of most talents players on the LPGA, the Kia Classic has some other faces that have grabbed much of the attention.
Michelle Wie, who has an endorsement contract with Kia, is in the news. However, Thompson, despite being one of youngest in the field, is expected to grab attention once she sets foot on the course.
Due to vigorous training on the practice range, Thompson has polished her putting skills and she is more confident than ever. She recently said in one of her interviews that she will try to grab a victory this season.
It remains to be seen whether the young prodigy will be able to snatch a triumph in the presence of some of the big names in women’s golf.
Paula Creamer is also in the roster, meaning the match is likely to turn into a nerve-racking battle.
Thompson’s best performance was recorded a few months back when she became the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour (LET).
Although the American star has not had her giant pictures posted for the promotion of Kia Classic, just like Michelle Wie, she has other things to boast about.
Some experts have said that Thompson should have been used to promote the tournament, as she is young and energetic enough to lure more spectators and sponsors.
However, the LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan does not seem to agree with this notion. He talked to the media last month and said that this will not work.
“We don’t feel the need to anoint her or ask her to be the poster child for the tour,” Whan said of Thompson.
“Maybe it’s my personal philosophy, but I find that we in the sports media or sports entities like I’m a part of, we tend to be in a hurry sometimes to promote the ‘Next One.’ Sometimes we’re talking about the ‘Next One’ when we already have the ‘Next One’.
However, the 17-year-old has made up her mind to enter the course with big aims and will try her best to record her pro victory.
