Lexi Thompson finishes tied for 22nd at Mission Hills
Lexi Thompson, who was one of the hot favourites to do well at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, finished tied for the 22nd.
Thompson proved her mettle in the Q-school and received full-time membership to participate in the LPGA events for the 2012 season.
The field in the Kraft Nabisco Championship was tougher than the last year, but Thompson fought hard to make the cut.
She kicked off the $2 million major title with a clear plan. The first round went average, as she carded a 72.
Other players in the field gave a tough time to the young star, but she kept her cool during most of the first round.
She amazed her fans when she drained the first birdie on the second hole of the first round. However, on the back nine, she appeared to be in a difficult situation, as she ended up recording 3 bogeys.
According to the analysts, Thompson could not have played a better game, as the roster contained giants like the current world number one Yani Tseng and the defending champion Stacy Lewis.
The American teen recorded the same score in the second round, with 4 birdies and four bogeys.
Experts said that Thompson’s work ethic was good, but she often misjudged her putts, which caused her to make too many bogeys.
Thompson performed amazingly well in the third round, trying to atone for her lapses in the first two rounds.
She stunned the spectators on the Mission Hills Country Club when she drained 3 consecutive birdies on the first 3 rounds.
Forging ahead with consistency, Thompson amazed her fans yet again when she reeled off her fourth birdie on the difficult par-3 5th.
She then parred 3 consecutive holes and scored another birdie on the par-5 9th. Analysts said that displaying a stellar form on the front nine of the third round raised concerns of many players in the field.
She carded an overall 68 on the third day. Expressing confidence in her game, Thompson said that she is in a good form these days.
"I've been really focused on my golf right now, and I guess they might be afraid to ask with me in tournaments and stuff," Thompson said with a smile.
