Lexi Thompson loses yet another chance to record LPGA win
Lexi Thompson, who has been seeking to rack up a much-wanted victory on the LPGA Tour, had to face disappointment last week, when she missed another golden opportunity to win a tournament at Crossings Course.
Thompson is a rising star from the United States, and has won three professional tournaments so far.
However, the last event was very momentous for her, as she came quite close to snatching a victory in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic.
The young prodigy was expected to do her best in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, but due to the strong that featured players like the world number three Suzann Pettersen and Paula Creamer, fans did not pin high hopes on her.
However, finishing runner-up at one of the most prestigious events of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour has highlighted the resilience Thompson is known for.
She recorded her first LPGA victory in the 2011 season when she won the Navistar LPGA Classic with a 5-stroke margin.
In addition to proving her worth on the LPGA Tour, the 17-year-old won the Dubai Ladies Masters, an event co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour, in December 2011.
Analysts said that Thompson could have won the event at Crossings Course, as she had managed to put enough pressure on her nearest rival, Stacy Lewis.
She kicked off the event with plenty of confidence, as she played sensible strokes throughout the four days. She improved her position in the third round, after she posted a stunning 66.
She surprised the spectators on the third day, as she shot 7 birdies and one bogey. She reeled off two straight birdies on the par-4 3rd and the par-5 4th hole.
Thompson looked even better in the final round, as she posted a 65. She recorded 7 birdies and no bogey.
“I came in today just with the same attitude as yesterday, just trying to do the same thing. But I chipped in on No. 2, so that got me going a little bit, but just positive thoughts the whole day,” the 17-year-old golfer said of her performance on the final
day.
“I became more consistent with my ball striking, and then yeah, I had a few putts that I dropped. I felt so much more confident over my putts, so, you know, that's a big thing in golf,” she added.
