Lexi Thompson ready to defend title at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012
American Lexi Thompson may not have done well in the current season, but she desperately seeks to defend her title at the upcoming Navistar LPGA Classic 2012.
The Navistar LPGA Classic is scheduled to start from September 20-23 at Prattville, Alabama, with the presence of big names.
Thompson recently spoke to the media about her plans for the tournament. The American star said that her biggest goal for the current season is to defend her title at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012.
Winning the title may not be easy for Thompson as the roster will be featuring most of the top-100 players.
Key contenders ready to tee off on September 20 include Stacy Lewis, current world number one Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, Natalie Gulbis, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lincicome, Brittany Lang, Angela Stanford, Christine Song, Azahara Munoz, Angela Oh, Vicky
Hurst, Lorie Kane and Karine Icher of France.
Despite a strong field, it is expected that Thompson will try to win at Prattville as the crowd support will also be playing an important part.
The 17-year-old performed well last year as she grabbed a 5-stroke victory against her nearest rival Tiffany Joh of the United States.
Since the start of the current season, Thompson has been trying to record a win on the LPGA Tour, but due to the growing influence of South Korean golfers, her performance has not been up to the mark.
Last year, the American star enjoyed plenty of support from the crowd. She was not only assisted by the spectators, but also her father who was caddying for her during the tournament.
Thompson said that she liked being helped by her father on the course.
“That was the best feeling ever (winning with her dad as her caddie). It was really emotional and so fun to share it with him," the LPGA titan said.
In another interview, Thompson said that her father has been with her on every step of the way, helping her learn some basic golfing skills.
“I don’t do any of my yardages, he does all of them, but he doesn’t read many of my putts. He’s great at getting the clubs and getting the wind right but he lets me get on with it on the greens (laughs)”.
