Lexi Thompson rises to 22nd in world rankings
American Lexi Thompson has moved up three spots to rank 22nd in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, thanks largely to her stunning performance in the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012.
Lexi, one of most talented players on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, sought to defend her title at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012, held at Prattville, Alabama, United
States, but lost the tournament to her fellow American Stacy Lewis.
While both the LPGA contenders were regarded as the top players in the United States, Lexi appeared to have grabbed more attention due to her last year’s victory — which showed exactly why
the young star needed a first-place finish much more than Lewis.
Lexi, despite having boosted her position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, has yet to claim a victory on the LPGA Tour this year, but she certainly did not need the Navistar LPGA Classic
2012 title to make it certain that she is one of the best female golfers in the world.
The fast-learning American has already put together quite a stunning profile heading into last few tournaments of the current season. Although she has notched only one LPGA triumph in her
professional career, she has a flair for crafting a career only a few have been able to achieve in women’s golf.
At first glance, including Lexi on the list of most powerful female golfers may seem a bit unrealistic as all she has been able to do is to win the 2011 edition of the Navistar LPGA Classic.
However, the fiery golfer has never stopped trying to win since she joined professional golf in 2010.
Her fans might have reacted to her defeat at the 2012 Navistar LPGA Classic, but the LPGA titan appears to be calm and composed.
Speaking to the media about what it felt like to defend her title at her favourite course and tournament, Lexi said that she had been wanting to prove her mettle here, but her nearest rival
Lewis played much better in the last moments.
“It feels good. You know, just being back here at this golf course, huge comfort level for me, gave me a lot of confidence coming into this week knowing how well I played last year, so I'll
deal with whatever finish I get. I was very happy with today,” she said.
