Lexi Thompson set to take on rivals at US Women's Open 2012
American Lexi Thompson, who finished inside the top-10 in the 2010 US Women’s Open, appears to be in high spirits, as she has said that she has become perfect and will try to do her best at Kohler this week.
Thompson looks all set to participate in the US Women’s Open 2012, scheduled to be held from July 5-8, at Blackwolf, Kohler.
The star-studded match at the US Women’s Open 2012 is featuring a solid field. Some of the key contenders include the current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, Stacy Lewis, Se Ri Pak, defending champion So Yeon Ryu, Azahara Munoz, I.K. Kim, Lee-Anne Pace, Shanshan Feng, Ai Miyazato, Mika Miyazato and Karrie Webb.
Thompson stunned the world when she participated in the US Women’s Open in 2007. Being only 12, she was the youngest to qualify for the event, although she faltered and was forced to leave after the first two rounds.
Now, with the competition becoming fiercer and fiercer by the day, she appears to have made some much-needed changes to her game.
Although not as big a player as Paula Creamer and Stacy Lewis, the young prodigy is confident that she can do something amazing at Kohler.
The 17-year-old spoke to the media, saying she is fully fit to take on rivals at the most prestigious LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event, and will try to atone for her past mistakes.
Thompson pointed out that she was not that perfect a few years back, but now she has managed to boost her confidence, thanks to rigorous training on the practice range.
Mental strength, the golfing sensation said, is going to play the key role in this week’s battle. She said that she has been able to improve her playing style and swing.
“I've just grown mentally. I would say from my first Open, I've grown with length to just getting older. But mentally has been a big learning experience for me. So I think that's really important on the Open golf course,” Thompson said.
The LPGA star went on to say that winning a major event is something every player dreams of.
“It's the biggest win you can get is a Major. Everybody just really prepares for this event, few days preparing for it. You just have to take your time and be patient during the rounds and everything”.
