Lexicon Lad to throw an unpredicted result in Caspian Caviar Conditional Jockeys´ Handicap Chase at Cheltenham
The bookies have ignored Lexicon Lad’s previous Cheltenham effort, giving him the low odds of 8 to 1 in the Caspian Caviar Conditional Jockeys´ Handicap Chase, taking place on Friday, December 14th. Tom George’s charge, to us, looks a very strong
player on the evidence of useful form that he showed here in January.
In the Timeform Novices' Handicap Chase, he ran brilliantly to secure the second place behind Bless The Wings. Despite failing to get off to a good start, the Paddy Brennan-ridden travelled nicely to become prominent in the middle stages.
The 16-1 chance, at one stage, was in a great position to claim the first place, but lost his advantage a couple of fences before the wire. As a result, he missed the victory by two and a half lengths.
The 7-year-old has been performing consistently since then. On his seasonal comeback, the Mrs Elizabeth Lawlor-bred was third behind Pasco. Under Paddy Brennan, Lexicon Lad remained prominent throughout in the Betfred The Bonus King Handicap Chase. But staying
on one pace in the final stages hurt his cause badly, as he made no impact.
The odds are nowhere in his favour. But since he was quite impressive on his previous Cheltenham start off this mark, the punters should keep an eye on him. He is facing no easy task.
A line-up of 11 horses is waiting for him. Over a distance of two miles and five furlongs, the competition will be for a prize of £7,507. The officials will kick off the affair at 12:45 GMT.
The Big Freeze is one of the principals. The penalty for last Friday’s Exeter success is not prohibitive, thus we expect Tim Vaughan’s charge to be good on the track. Valley View is also carrying very good odds. The Jonjo O´Neill-trained might resume his
progress returned to shorter, after facing an unlucky defeat at Carlisle last month.
The Big Freeze and Valley View, both are placed very high on our shortlist, but the vote goes to Lexicon Lad, who has a solid piece of C&D form under his belt, and could spring up a surprise. Good luck to all the contestants.
