Li Han defies all odds to clinches Women’s Singles title at Australian Open GP Gold 2012
China’s young and spirited shuttler Li Han proved her mettle as she clinched Women’s Singles title after crushing higher ranked Bae Youn Joo of Korea in the title match of the Australian Open GP Gold 2012 on Sunday, April 8, in Australia.
The un-seeded Han, who started her campaign in the Australian Open from the qualifying round, turned into title winner by beating many top shuttlers in her way to glory.
The Chinese did not show any mercy and thrashed Youn Joo, who was the fifth seed in Women’s Singles main draw of the tournament.
Han consumed just 39 minutes to impress the local crowd with her impressive skills and ended the title match in straight games without dropping any set.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Korean failed to control the aggression of her lower ranked opponent and remained helpless against the flawless game of the Chinese shuttler.
Han started her campaign in a controlled manner as she played with precision against Youn Joo and easily set up an impressive lead until the mid-game interval in the opening set of title match.
In the meanwhile, the Korean tried her best to find a good rhythm but failed to live up to expectations and remained in trouble.
After the break, Han continued her inspiring run in the match without dropping down her speed at any stage in the entire game and bagged the opening set in a remarkable fashion by an impressive 21-13 score on the board.
In the second set, Youn Joo played a little better and managed to progress equally until the score reached at 5-5.
However, she could not continue playing positive badminton as her Chinese rival geared up her speed and injected power in her strokes.
Han managed to get a strong position in the second set until the mid-game interval by reaching at 11-5.
After the break, Han continued toppling her higher ranked rival without showing any respect and ended the set in a striking manner with a 21-14 score on the board.
Han emerged as the title winner by winning the final encounter with a superb margin of 21-13 and 21-14.
