Li Hang Dominates Graeme Dott in the last 32 – China Open 2011
Li Hang has beaten Graeme Dott by a frame score of 5-4 in the last 32 round of Bank of Beijing China Open 2011 held at Beijing Students University Gymnasium in China.
Former world champion and two-time runner-up, Graeme Dott, was a heavy favourite for the match, but the Chinese newly turned professional, Hang produced a great accomplishment to edge his experienced opponent in the final frame.
Hang who was the only Chinese to come through the wild card rounds has put a shock on the cards, as he previously also out-played former 1997 world champion Ken Doherty by a frame score of 5-1.
It was a fully stretched battle with the overall score-line of 47-81, 65-29, 1-117, 30-68, 109-4, 4-137, 69-35, 57-56 and 16-72.
First chance in the opening frame fell for Dott, but he lost his nerves after rolling in 47 points and was punished straight away from Hang, who responded with a classy break of 81 to draw first blood 1-0.
Second frame was a scrappy affair. A bout of safety play was seen among the players, but in the end it was Dott who forced a chance from his opponent and levelled the things by 1-1 with a decisive break of 52.
But he was given no chance in the third frame, as the Chinese produced a mind-boggling century break of 117 in it to restore his one frame lead. He also took the fourth with his flawless safety skills and went ahead by 3-1.
The 33-year-old pocket dynamo Dott, who was not able to perform as of yet, also bounced back in the fifth with a carving break of 80 to reduce the deficit by 3-2. However any early nerves were removed by the Chinese local star when he wrapped up the sixth
frame with a magnificent match-highest century break of 133.
The match was almost through there, as Hang left Dott down by two frames with three to play, before the Scottish clawed back and pocketed the next two frames to force the decider. He took the seventh with a superb break of 64 and won the eighth after a bout
of safety play.
Dott also had a good chance in the ninth, but this time he lost control of his emotions and when the chance presented itself, Hang slotted an outclass break of 71 to finish the matter off.
Hang has now set up a potential match against the Magician, Shaun Murphy, in the last 16. This is going to be a promising match, as Murphy recently has won the first PTC title and is playing on the top of his form.
