Li Na: “Every time I had break point she hit a winner, so what could I do?” – Tennis News
Chinese number one, Li Na went down to the German tennis ace, Angelique Kerber, in the quarter-final of the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday. She was very frustrated at her loss but felt helpless at the hard courts of California,
USA. She lost the match in straight sets.
In a post-match interview, she mentioned, “Every time I had break point she hit a winner, so what could I do? Last time I played her it was two years ago, so two years can change many things. Today I was a little bit surprised
- she has unbelievable defence. Sometimes I thought I won the point but she just got the ball back all the time. It was a little bit tough.”
Li lost the first head-to-head match against the German. Previously, she had defeated her three times on the trot in 2010. It was something that surprised everyone and left the Chinese crowd dejected who wanted their superior ranked
contestant to advance into the semi-final stage and contest world number one, Victoria Azarenka, for a spot in the title match.
Hopman Cup was the first tournament that commenced the year in good fashion for the Chinese. She won all three of her rubbers round matches. She went on to play the title match of the Apia Sydney International but was dumped the
reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, in a taxing three-setter.
The Australian Open campaign for the Chinese superstar was a bit of a disappointment as she couldn’t clear the fourth round stage. She was undone by the-then defending champion, Kim Clijsters, of Belgium in a gruelling three-setter.
Chinese tennis ace won all three of her singles rubbers round matches of the Federation Cup to take her team to a comfortable triumph in the Zone Group I tie. Her bad patch kicked-off in at Paris during the Open GDF Suez when she
retired in the second set against the Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria in the opening round.
Indian Wells also proved a bit hectic as well as disappointing for the eighth ranked Chinese, who merely had a challenging encounter throughout the tournament. Kerber proved to be a stunning character who outfoxed the reigning
French Open champion. It might be high time for the Chinese to revitalize her strategy and stay focused on the task; otherwise she will easily be knocked-out of the Top-10 players of the world considering that the inferior players are playing extremely well.
