Li Na aims to grab another Grand Slam title at Wimbledon – Tennis Special
World number 11, Li Na, is pumped up to perform well in the year’s third Grand Slam Championship at Wimbledon. She doesn’t want to glue a tag of a 'one-Slam wonder' around her neck and would like to grab another major title. She
has an opportunity to wipe off the sad memories of unsuccessful title defence at French Open by winning the Wimbledon title in London.
The 30-year-old Chinese superstar sky-rocketed the new highs of fame by winning the Roland Garros French Open last year starting as an underdog. She was the first Asian player ever to have won a singles Grand Slam Championship
in the history of the sport.
Talking about her recent performances, she commented, “I lost one match so don't try to put me down. This is tennis.” She lost to the Kazakh qualifier, Yaroslava Shvedova, in the fourth round of the French Open this season.
However, despite her loss at the French Open, she still made it to the list of Top-100 riches earning athletes in the world. The list was issued by Forbes that featured just two women and Li was one of them. There is no surprise
about the other women. She is from the world of tennis as well and she is the reigning world number one, Maria Sharapova, who just completed her career-Slam by winning the French Open Championship earlier this month. The Chinese was ranked 81st
in the list making $18.4 million and the slender-legged Russian was on the 26th spot making around $27.9 million.
There is quite a debate about Li’s downfall in the form this season. Some critics believe that her endorsements for the brands like Nike, Samsung and Mercedes has cut-down her time for practices and at the age of 30; athletes require
a lot of practice to keep them fit and sustain the stamina. However, there are multiple reasons for the downturn in the performance of the Chinese superstar this year. She has been busy with several marketing campaigns and the old giants have found their form
back that has made her difficult. She did well in Rome; reaching the final of the tournament just before the start of the French Open.
She lost in the second round of the Wimbledon tournament last year; falling apart to the German booming starlet, Sabine Lisicki, who fired 17 aces in the match. However, she has been quarter-finalist at All England Club in 2006
and 2010. So, there is no doubt that she can repeat the heroics and once again stun the world by grabbing her second major title in Wimbledon. She has not participated in any warm-up events so far. She wanted to take some rest and practice tennis back in China.
It’s high time for her to regroup and surprise the world for the second time. She has got the ability to do perform the miracle again. She just needs to stay calm and focused on her task; take every match individually and plan
her way out against every competitor.
