Li Na and Caroline Wozniacki to feature at the BNP Paribas Showdown in Hong Kong – Tennis News
Chinese tennis star, Li Na; and the former world number one from Denmark, Caroline Wozniacki, will face each other in an exhibition match during the BNP Paribas Showdown in Hong Kong next year.
The event will be organised on the World Tennis Day at the Asia World Arena in Hong Kong on March 4, 2013. Star Games, Inc. will produce the event in association with Hong Kong Tennis. Asia World Arena will host such a high level
tennis event for the first time.
BNP Paribas Showdown is being organised on the World Tennis Day in New York for the last five years but this would its first time in Asia. The event is coming to Asia but it would be held simultaneously in New York on the same
night.
Chief Executive Officer for BNP Paribas Hong Kong, Paul Yang, said in an interview, “Once more, BNP Paribas is proud to bring the best of tennis to Asia by supporting this outstanding sporting event, as it does with the same acclaimed
tennis event in New York. We are excited to share our passion and enthusiasm for tennis with the fans in Hong Kong. The BNP Paribas Showdown gives the bank a perfect opportunity to accelerate the growing awareness of our brand in Asia and it reaffirms our
commitment and loyalty to this region and to this sport.”
Li is the first Grand Slam winner from, Asia either male or female; and she is a great source of inspiration for tennis starters in the biggest continent of the world. On the other hand, Wozniacki is a Grand Slam finalist and two-time
season ending world number one.
Other than these two superb female tennis players, two former rivals and world number ones will lock horns with other at the BNP Paribas Showdown. American legend, John McEnroe, will take on the eight-time Grand Slam winner, Ivan
Lendl, in the other match.
In New York, 15-time Major winner, Serena Williams, will play the current world number one, Victoria Azarenka, and Rafael Nadal will take on the Argentinean star, Juan Martin Del Potro, in the second match.
