Li Na bamboozles Olivia Rogowska in the round two – Australian Open 2012
World number six, Li Na, proved her worth once again with a resounding win over the local tennis ace, Olivia Rogowska, in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. It was the round two contest of the Australian Open played at Rod Laver Arena
in Melbourne on Wednesday. The two players were locking horns for the first time in their career so it was obvious that despite the home support and familiar soil, the Aussie will have one of the toughest times of her life at the court.
The sporting arena was jam-packed with crowd roaring the name of the 20-year-old, Rogowska, at the start of the match but their cheering reduced with time, as the Chinese tennis ace picked up momentum and hammered the Aussie
to all corners of the court. Pin-drop silence was observed after the first half of the match, as the crowd had already accepted the fact that its hot favourite will not be able to pull up an upset.
Chinese number one started the proceedings with a successful serve game and followed it up with couple of thunderous winners down the line to take the 2-0 lead upfront. Two more breaks were exchanged by both players in the
next games that retained the lead of the match favourite Chinese superstar. Next three games were held by respective serve players as the scores pushed to 5-3 in favour of the Chinese. Local superstar served the eighth game and faced some lighting in quick
winners that sailed past her; that break was good enough for the visitor to take the first set lead and put pressure on her rival.
Second set was started vigilantly by both players. First five games witnessed no breaks of serve and it pushed the scores to 3-2 in favour of Li. Local served to level the scores but instead dropped the game on her serve
that was the turning point in the second set. That lead proved a bit too much to recover and gave the leverage to the visitor to play her natural game.
Li picked up the momentum at that stage and pulled the Aussie out of her comfort zone. Most of the fans in the arena were seen with their heads down in despair. Li held her serve in the seventh game and broke once again to
round off the second set proceedings. It was a commanding triumph for the Chinese and it will definitely boost her morale for the upcoming encounters in the tournament.
