Li Na breezes into the fourth round after dumping Sorana Cirstea – French Open 2011
Sixth seeded Chinese Li Na swept aside Romanian Sorana Cirstea in one hour to advance into the fourth round of the 2011 Roland Garros, second of the four WTA Slam held in Paris, France. She registered a straight set victory over the 21-year-old Romanian on Saturday.
29-year-old Chinese rolled all over the court and dominated throughout the match to earn a straight set victory at Court Suzanne Lenglen. She faced the Romanian for the first time and outshined her completely in every statistic of the game.
Ranked seventh in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Li thundered into the opening set and barely sweat to reel off the first four games in a row before the Romanian could hold on. Later she kept her serve to clinch the set with an assuring 6-2 score line.
The Chinese produced an equal first serve share of 67 percent and registered an impressive 69 percent win on it. She faced zero breakpoint and converted two out of four breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to seal the set in thirty minutes.
Li carried her winning ways into the final set and broke the Romanian’s serve in the very first game. However, she lost her serve in the proceeding game but roared back by winning proceeding four games in a row before Cirstea could hold on for the first time. Later, the Chinese held her serve in the next game to bag the set with a 6-2 score line again.
Her 67 percent first serve share was much better than Cirstea’s 46 percent and she earned a spectacular 83 percent win on it. To spice it further, she played amazingly near net and clobbered five winners in this set.
World number ninety-nine, on the other side of net, triumphed over Swiss Patty Schnyder and her twenty-seventh seeded countrywoman, Alexandra Dulgheru in straight sets to reach this spot. However, she was outclassed in this match and eventually exited from this event.
Up next for the Chinese is the ninth seed, Czech Petra Kvitova who downed American Vania King in straight sets to book this spot.
