Li Na crushes Greta Arn in the quarter-final of Internazionali BNL d’Italia
As expected, world number six Li Na of China had no real difficulty in disposing off the 48th ranked Hungarian, Greta Arn in the quarter-final of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Friday afternoon. Played at the Foro
Italico in Rome, Italy, the fourth seeded Chinese wrapped up her straight sets victory 6-3, 6-1, in just 69 minutes to book a semi-final berth in the $2,050,000 WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) clay-court tournament.
The hot favourite Li Na proved her superiority over the Hungarian in every segment of the game and gave no chance to her opponent of to come on top. She had already defeated Arn way back in 2000 and has now extended her head-to-head
lead to 2-0 after her victory at Rome. Li Na displayed the true class of a world number six player and forced her way to the semi-final of the tournament.
The Chinese took hold of the game from the very beginning and never lost her grip throughout the contest. She was very quick to break into a 4-2 lead in the opening set and reeled off 22 of 30 serve points. Arn served very accurately
but failed to bag sufficient points to overcome her strong opponent. The Hungarian had a break chance in the seventh game but she squandered it to trail 2-5.
The dominant Chinese had no difficulty in serving out of the first set at 6-3 to get one up in the contest. The Hungarian slumped further in the following set and failed to hold serve even in a single game. Li Na started off the
second set with a serve break but Arn registered his first break point of the contest to level the scores at 1-1.
The Chinese continued her demolition job and stung a second serve break to lead 4-2. She struck three consecutive serve breaks to leave Arn answerless in the game and finished the contest at 6-1 to reach the round of four at Rome.
Li Na will either face the sixth seed Samantha Stosur of Australia or the second seed home favourite, Francesca Schiavone in the semi-final clash of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
