Li Na defeats Marion Bartoli in the Hopman Cup; pleases her husband with this triumph – Tennis News
Chinese number one, Li Na, stood firm in the way of a whitewash defeat at the hands of Team France in the Hopman Cup. Li bounced back after being one set down to clinch the rare victory in the battle between the French and
Chinese women squads. With a cumulative score of 2-6 6-2 6-4, Li confirmed her triumph over one of the most influential players of France, Marion Bartoli.
The opening day witnessed the Chinese tennis ace overpowering the French, Bartoli but it was the only win China could clinch before losing rest of the two matches. Richard Gasquet stood firm and won both his singles and mixed
doubles matches to ease his team to a victory.
Li’s triumphant victory could not prevent Team China from losing the tie but the impactful victory for the world number five will certainly boost up her confidence before stepping in the 2012 WTA (Women’s Tennis Association)
season.
“After the French Open my life changed. If I go somewhere to play a tournament, more people know who I am. I'm only focusing on photo shoots. It's tough after winning a big title, maintaining the concentration - so many photo
shoots,” expressed the Chinese winner.
Since her flabbergasting French Open Grand Slam triumph, Li has not been in her sublime touch and lost most of her encounters. It seems as if all the media attention and fame is getting onto the nerves of the Chinese tennis
ace, as she hasn’t been focusing on her game play in the recent tournaments. She has only registered seven wins from her sixteen encounters since her Grand Slam triumph.
Her dismal performance was not liked by her coach-c*m husband and she was always coming at her with all the negatives in her game play. Li stated, “It's bad, we're always fighting. It's tough, he's always telling me, 'Move
your feet, move your feet!' I'm thinking, 'Why are you shouting at me?” It seems like world’s attention is hampering her personal life as well.
Li has been engaged in by a huge media burst, including multiple interviews and photo shoots, since her Roland Garros victory, diverting her focus from daily practice sessions and personal commitments too. A desperate but
well deserved triumph will set off a firing season for world number five and hopefully she brings a lot more glory to her husband and the Chinese people with her performances at the court.
