Li Na dumps Eugenie Bouchard to reach round three – Rogers Cup 2012
World number 11, Li Na, ended the cameo of the 18-year-old Canadian booming star, Eugenie Bouchard, in the second round of the Rogers Cup at Montreal.
The 30-year-old Chinese won the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to leave the Canadian wildcard entrant disheartened after an emphatic start to the tournament.
The hot looking blonde couldn’t pass on further glory to the local fans by upsetting the former French Open Champion at her home soil. She started with a comfortable serve hold but couldn’t repeat the same performance in the third
game and went down to a trail of 1-3.
A swap of breakpoints in the midst of the set kept the lead intact for the 30-year-old Chinese who successfully held her serve in the 10th game to bag the opening set.
First six games of the second set witnessed close battle between the two players but none of them could manage to sneak a breakpoint and inch a step ahead of their rival.
A sudden outbreak at both ends witnessed three games resulting in a breakpoint with two of them being won by the Chinese superstar.
Li was serving for the set in the 10th game of the second set and she did that with ease; losing just one point. It was a compact performance from the 10th seed Chinese who has struggled in the recent past.
The Chinese commented about her rival, “I really have to say she was playing unbelievable today. She's young and just won Wimbledon juniors this year. I won the match today because I've been on the tour for a long time and have
more experience on the court."
Li was asked a question about the impact of the rain-stops during the match and she gagged, “I think I warmed up like a hundred times already. You never know when you can come to the court, so you're standing up every second. But
finally, the good news was we were able to finish the match today. So it was good in the end."
The eighth seed Italian star, Sara Errani, is up next for the Chinese superstar.
