Li Na en route to Montreal rematch with her sublime form – Tennis News
Former French Open champion, Li Na of China, cruised past the double threat on Friday, winning both of her singles matches with the utmost authority to reach the semi-finals of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. The ninth
seeded Chinese finished off her Thursday’s contest against the Swede contender, Johanna Larsson, 6-2, 6-2, in the third round brawl earlier on Friday.
The 30-year-old then went on for the ultimate challenge to face the world number three, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the quarter-final battle and absolutely devastated the second seeded Pole to reach the round of four. Li Na registered
a double breadstick, 6-1, 6-1, to overpower Radwanska for the second time in the US Open Series.
"Of course I was tired but in my mind I was feeling strong, and I felt I could win both matches," Li Na said. "I did the same in Montréal last week, same schedule, so I was confident I could do it again. But right now I really
just want to sleep!"
"I think she's really on fire," Radwanska said of Li Na. "She's really playing great tennis right now. I haven't played my best these two weeks for sure, but she has played really well. Even when she plays two matches in one day
she's great."
It was just the last week when Li Na belted a thumping 6-2, 6-1, victory over Radwanska in the quarter-finals of the Montreal Masters. She was overwhelmed by the world number five, Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic, in the title
match to squander her chance of winning the maiden championship title of the season. It appears quite evident that the Chinese number one is well on course for the rematch of the Rogers Cup against the Czech number one.
Li Na will take on the former world number one, Venus Williams of USA, in the semi-finals of the tournament. With the current sublime form and a victory over the third ranked Pole on her back, the ninth seed Chinese is rated as
the hot favourite to take the better of Williams and a earn her consecutive title shot.
On the other hand, Kvitova is all set to take on the German number one, Angelique Kerber, in the semis. Fifth seed Kerber ended Serena Williams’ 19-match winning streak in the quarter-finals but Kvitova is having a championship
title won last Monday. Surely it will be a h**l of a contest between these two top-class contenders but it is most likely that Kvitova will carry on her sublime form to formulate the rematch of the Montreal final.
