Li Na furious at Chinese Tennis Federation decision – Tennis News
World number 11, Li Na, is very upset by the decision of the Chinese Tennis Federation about her Olympics campaign in the following month. She wanted to concentrate on the singles category and just wanted to practice for that but
her name has been sent in the doubles team as well which is very shocking to her. She believes that her federation has dodged her very cleverly that has left her dejected.
Li told the local media representative, “If it were true, I don't know why they wanted me to play doubles.” She will team up with another rocking superstar of China, Shuai Zhang. However, she is not looking forward to make a strong
point in doubles and still practicing hard on her singles campaign especially after an early second round exit from Wimbledon at the hands of the Romanian tennis star, Sorana Cirstea. Olympics will be played at the same surface, grass court, and will be contested
at Wimbledon so she has to do a lot of homework before the commencement of four-yearly event in London.
She further added, "Last time I played doubles was during the 2007 Australian Open. So far I have not heard from anyone asking me to play doubles. I hope they could respect athletes more ... the way they handled this makes me uncomfortable."
Li’s partner is just 23 years of age and she is touching 30 at the moment. So, the co-ordination and game style will definitely differ; Li being the old style player and Zhang with all the fast pitch shots. It can be a best mix of play but then again the lack
of co-ordination will destroy their campaign.
“I am 30 now and all these issues could have been put on the table. If both (parties) are okay, we do it, otherwise we do not." Li expressed her emotions in anger. She further said, “Life is like a cup of tea. It won't be bitter
for a life-time but for a short while anyway.”
It is clear from this press conference that the top ranked Chinese superstar is extremely annoyed by the decision of her federation to send her in the doubles field of play as well. There is technically negligible time for both
players to team up and create some chemistry between them. However, with some luck and hard work, there is a possibility that they can steal a bronze medal at most.
