Li Ning China Masters 2012: Du Pengyu ousts Wenlong Zhou in Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final
China’s passionate shuttler Du Pengyu proved his domination as he surged into Men’s Singles top-eight stage after stamping his mark over his lower ranked compatriot Wenlong Zhou at the Li Ning China Masters 2012 in China, on Thursday, September 13.
The World Number 10 Pengyu, who has been positioned at number four in Men’s Singles main draw of the tournament, stretched his winning performance on court and ousted Wenlong in a convincing manner.
The fourth seeded Pengyu had to work hard in opening set but he easily managed to overpower his rival in the following game and overpowered his team-mate in straight sets with a spectacular margin by taking 55 minutes on court.
In the meanwhile, the un-seeded Wenlong showed his remarkable skills in opening set but remained unlucky in the ending points. However, he failed to maintain his rhythm in the following set and crashed out without taking away any game from his experienced
challenger.
In the first set, both Chinese shuttlers played to their maximum speed and pushed each other in all areas of the court.
They entertained the home crowd by playing at their best speed and the score remained tight until the end of opening half as no one could manage to get a comfortable position.
After the mid-game interval, Pengyu tried his best to take a reasonable lead but failed to manage it until the score reached at 20-20.
At this crucial stage, Pengyu played with aggression and took two consecutive points to secure the game with a 22-20 score on the board.
The second game was completely different when Pengyu put up spectacular show of top class badminton by gearing up his speed in all areas of the court and remained successful in taking a wonderful lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Pengyu did not slow down the pace of rallies and maintained his upper hand over his rival all the way to end up the set with a crushing margin of 21-12.
Pengyu emerged as the winner in this Men’s Singles round-of-16 battle with a 22-20 and 21-12 score on the board.
