Li Ning China Masters 2012: Du Pengyu topples Wang Zhengming to surge into Men’s Singles semi-final
China’s passionate player Du Pengyu delivered a gritty performance on court as he surged into Men’s Singles semi-final after showing exit to his lower ranked team-mate Wang Zhengming in quarter-final match at Li Ning China Masters 2012 on Friday, September 14, at Changzhou, China.
World Number 10 Pengyu, who has been placed at number four in Men’s Singles seeding in the tournament, played with precision and easily registered a spectacular victory over the seventh seeded Zhengming who is currently positioned at number 16 in the world.
Pengyu has been struggling hard to win a super series title for the last couple of years and reaching in the semi-final of China Masters indicates that he is ready to strike his opponent to earn glory.
The impressive Pengyu played remarkable badminton in quarter-final battle against his talented compatriot.
He was dominant in the whole fight and remained successful in showing exit to his opponent in straight sets with a one-sided margin in 45 minutes.
The first set of this contest was interesting when both shuttlers played with aggression and precision in opening points.
Zhengming played impressive game and remained successful in taking an early lead but he failed to maintain it as Pengyu played with aggression and managed a reasonable gap until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Pengyu continued showing his attacking skills on court as he did not show any sign of slowing down his speed and remained successful in winning the first set with a superb 21-11 score on the board.
In the following game, Pengyu remained focused and maintained his power play on court by taking the bird early from all corners and took an impressive 11-5 lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Zhengming tried to reduce the deficit but could not put up strong show as his rival was in complete control.
Pengyu did not face any considerable resistance from his opponent and ultimately won the second game with a crushing margin of 21-12.
The in-form Pengyu remained successful in securing his berth in top four by beating Zhengming in quarter-final battle with a spectacular 21-11 and 21-12 score on the board.
