Li Ning China Masters 2012: Minatsu Mitani sends Lin Wang packing in Women’s Singles first round
Minatsu Mitani, a spirited shuttler from Japan, delivered a phenomenal performance on court and thrashed her local opponent Lin Wang in Women’s Singles first round at the Li Ning China Masters 2012 on Wednesday, September 12, in China.
The impressive Minatsu, who has been in remarkable form for the last few months, showed a great performance and destroyed the local hopes by showing exit to Lin in a 52-minute long battle and advanced into Women’s Singles second round.
Minatsu was in tremendous form as she played with impressive confidence and speed against her experienced opponent and overpowered her in a spectacular fashion by ending up the contest in straight sets with a reasonable margin.
On the other hand, Lin tried her best to show great performance but she failed to cheer her home fans as she could not play up to the expectations. She crashed out without proving her worth in the opening round of the championship.
It was an absolutely fantastic fight when both shuttlers played with an incredible speed and control in their shots and snapped each other’s heel while remaining focused.
They employed aggressive shots and did not miss any chance to finish up rallies and remained close until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Minatsu went on playing in the similar staggering fashion and managed to reach at 20-16.
At this stage, Chinese shuttler showed her brilliance and saved four set points to make the score levelled at 20-20.
However, Minatsu played with aggression and control at this nail-biting stage and took the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
In the second set, both players again locked horns in an aggressive fashion as they played positive badminton and remained quite close until the end of opening half.
After the interval, Lin played good badminton and reached at 17-15 when Minatsu surprised everyone by taking six points in a row to end up the set with a stunning 21-17 score on the board.
The in-form Minatsu emerged as the winner in this superb contest in straight sets with a decent difference of 22-20 and 21-17.
