Li Ning China Masters 2012: Wang Zhengming beats Wei Feng Chong in an epic round-of-16 battle
China’s Wang Zhengming proved his elevated craft on court and cheered his home fans by reaching into Men’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Malaysia’s Wei Feng Chong in an epic round-of-16 clash at the Li Ning China Masters 2012 at Changzhou, China, on Thursday, September 13.
The World Number 16 Zhengming, who is the seventh seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, had to dig into his arsenal to overpower his talented Malaysian opponent and managed to earn victory in a narrow fashion.
It was a breath-taking fight for the local crowd as Zhengming worked to his limit and employed everything he had on court in beating his opponent in 74 minutes with a tight margin on the score board.
On the contrary, the lower ranked Wei Feng put up spectacular show and took the opening game easily. However, he remained unlucky in the second game and lost it with a tight score.
In the decider, the Malaysian failed to show his skills on court and eventually lost the battle to his local opponent in a respectable way.
First game of this pre-quarter-final battle was tussling when both shuttlers showed their aggressive skills and matched the pace of rallies until the mid-game break when no one could manage a reasonable lead.
After the break, Zhengming tried his best to dominate the pace of rallies but he failed to manage it and eventually lost the set to Wei Feng with a tight score of 19-21.
The second game was different in opening half when Zhengming proved his worth and took a comfortable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Wei Feng also played with precision and stopped the progress of his rival while remaining focused. He levelled the score at 17-17.
Both players showed their positive play at this stage and reached at 21-21 when Zhengming managed to score two consecutive points and took the set with a 23-21 margin on the board.
The deciding game was one-sided as Zhengming played aggressive badminton this time and remained ahead of his Malaysian rival all the way to grab the game with a one-sided score of 21-10.
Zhengming won this Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final battle in hard-fought three games with a 19-21, 23-21 and 21-10 score on the board.
