Li Ning China Masters 2012: Wei Feng Chong stuns Boonsak Ponsana in Men’s Singles first round
Malaysia’s spirited shuttler Wei Feng Chong found a perfect start as he proved his mettle in the arena in Men’s Singles first round and stunned hi higher ranked rival Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand at Li Ning China Masters 2012 on Wednesday, September 2012,
in China.
The in-form Wei Feng, who has been positioned at number 33 in Men’s Singles world placements, showed his aggressive skills on court as he defeated the World Number 26 in a hard-fought competition.
Wei Feng could not do well in opening set but he found a good rhythm at the right time and overpowered his opponent by grabbing the following sets with a crushing margin by spending 60 minutes on the board.
In the meanwhile, the World Number 26 Ponsana showed his aggression in opening set and took it easily. However, he failed to put up strong resistance in the following sets and crashed out without creating a strong impact.
First set of this contest went as expected when the Thai shuttler played with precision and took an impressive lead until the mid-game interval.
After the 60-second break, Wei Feng showed aggression but not enough to overpower his rival. He lost the set in a one-sided fashion with an 11-21 score on the board.
However, the Malaysian shuttler put spectacular show in the following set as he played positive and fast badminton and remained ahead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Wei Feng continued showing impressive craft and managed finish off the battle with a 21-16 score on the board.
The deciding set was one-sided as Wei Feng pushed Ponsana on back foot from opening points and managed a tremendous lead until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Wei Feng did not let his challenger to find a good flow as he playing with remarkable precision and remained successful in winding up the set in a dictating fashion by a superb margin of 21-12.
Wei Feng registered a stunning victory over Ponsana in three games of 60 minutes with a sensational 11-21, 21-16 and 21-12 margin on the score board.
