Li Ning China Masters 2012: Wenlong Zhou trounces Brice Leverdez in Men’s Singles first round
China’s emerging shuttler Wenlong Zhou showed his remarkable craft on court and lived up to the expectations of his home fans by putting up spectacular show of top quality badminton and ousted his higher ranked challenger Brice Leverdez of France in Men’s Singles first round at Li Ning China Masters 2012 in China, on Wednesday, September 12.
Wenlong, who started his journey from the qualifying round of China Masters, proved his worth in the arena and overpowered the World Number 37 Leverdez in an aggressive fashion by consuming just 36 minutes on court.
The Chinese shuttler was in impressive form while playing against his experienced French rival and he showed his elevated craft by finishing up the contest in straight games with a remarkable margin on the score board.
On the other hand, Leverdez failed to put up strong show on court as he could not cope up with the incredible speed and accuracy of his local rival and eventually lost to him in a lopsided fashion without taking any set.
In the opening set of the contest, both shuttlers played attacking badminton while remaining focused on court and pushed each other in all corners.
Backed by the support of home crowd, Wenlong started to gear up his speed in all areas of the court and dictated the pace of rallies which helped him to set up a staggering 11-3 lead until the end of first half.
After the break, the Chinese continued his stunning run on court without sparing any chance for Leverdez to put up strong show. He finished off the first game in a crushing way by a 21-10 score on the board.
The second set was competitive as Leverdez played better badminton as compared to the opening game and remained slightly behind his Chinese opponent until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Wenlong changed his tactics and played with precision from all areas which helped him to end up the second set with a 21-16 margin on the court.
The incredible Wenlong emerged as the title winner in this Men’s Singles contest with a dominating margin of 21-10 and 21-16.
