Li Ning China Masters: Parupalli Kashyap struggles against Huan Gao in Men’s Singles first round
India’s ace player Parupalli Kashyap had to struggle hard to get passed his Men’s Singles first round test as he narrowly defeated his lower ranked local opponent Huan Gao at the Li Ning China masters 2012 at Changzhou, China, on Wednesday, September 12.
Kashyap, who is World Number 20 in Men’s Singles category at the moment, had to dig into his reserves to produce timely form and remained successful in beating his spirited Chinese opponent in a tight fashion.
It was one of the best fights of the day and the eighth seeded Kashyap worked well in the end and emerged as the winner in three games with a close margin by working for 78 minutes on court.
In the meanwhile, the young Huan won the hearts of the crowd despite losing to his higher ranked Indian opponent as he put up stunning show of attacking badminton and snatched a game before going down in rubber sets with a respectable margin on the board.
In the first set, the higher ranked Kashyap played with precision and kept his rival moving around in all corners of the court and remained successful in taking a remarkable lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Kashyap continued showing his superb play on court and managed to end up the game with a dictating 21-13 score on the board.
In the following set, Kashyap failed to maintain his rhythm on court as he played quivering badminton sparing chance for his opponent to get back on track until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Indian player tried his best to show his brilliance by gearing up his speed but failed to live up to the expectations and lost the set with a 14-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both shuttlers put up wonderful show on court and remained close on the board all the way until the ending stage.
At this crucial stage, Kashyap utilised his vast experience and managed to grab ending points to finish off the set with a 21-19 margin on the board.
Kashyap emerged as victorious in this phenomenal three-set contest in 78 minutes with a close score of 21-13, 14-21 and 21-19.
